So root (user ID 1) in the container is user ID 100001 on the host, which probably has no access to the files on that drive.Ī quick fix would be to chmod the contents of the drive to 777, so they're readable and writable by anyone, but I wouldn't recommend it, even if it's just your own server. The problem is that with unprivileged containers, root in the container isn't root on the Proxmox host, all user IDs get mapped to a different range. Id like to keep everything as clean as possible, so undoing the changes I've done so far would be great.Īny help in getting me pointed in the right direction would be much much appreciated. Not sure if I need the drive to be set up in ZFS or not. My question is what is the best/easiest way for me to get network access to my 10tb hard drive so I can do all of its file management from Windows - and then have the plex container look to that for the media? If someone could point me to a worth while tutorial (I've looked at a bunch and they all seem to vary or miss the mark), or if its easy enough, write a quick step by step on what I need to do here, it would be much appreciated.Īlso, what do I need to do to undo the changes from that first walkthrough? Uninstall SMB from proxmox, and my drive is still sitting as a ZFS (only detecting 8tb out of 9.1tb so not all my media). So I'm stumped there.Īfter many hours of trying to get this set up I'm turning to the community for help. However when prompted for credentials on Windows, it was not accepting root - and the password I had just set for it in the container. ![]() Then, my research brought me to creating a new container and installing something like Turnkey Linux File Server - which I did as a test and I was able to set up the SMB IP, it had me set a new password and everything, and my Windows PC detected it. I originally followed this walkthrough (I already had Proxmox setup so I started at step 7: ZFS) however once I got down to editing the smb.conf - the documentation left me confused on what to change and where to change it, and I never got the SMB working. I already have my media on the drive, and I know I need to set up SMB access for the entirety of the drive. Unfortunately I'm having a crazy amount of trouble, I've looked online for hours trying to figure it out but either the documentation is poor or my lack of Linux knowledge is preventing me from totally understanding what's going on. ![]() ![]() Now I have a 10tb external USB hard drive plugged into the NUC that I want to be able to access from my Windows PC (for transferring files etc) and then I want the Plex container to be able to look at that for the media files. I have Proxmox installed on a NUC and I've successfully set up an ubuntu container with Plex, its just waiting for media. I'm pretty tech savvy, but I'm new to Proxmox and Linux and I really could use some help from someone more experienced.
